A
quick and dirty recipe for a rather yummy Tiramisu. It started as a research for what can we do with a bag of chocolate wafers we had around, and turned into the monster you can see on the left.
Half an hour and you are done, not many dishes to wash. You do have to wait around a few hours while it cools in the fridge before eating, but hey..it’s a small price to pay for yummyliciousness. Inspired mostly from here.
Ingredients:
- -Ladyfingers. The quantity depends really on how big is the recipient you make the tiramisu in. For this quantity of stuff, 500 grams, or a pack containing two rows of biscuits should be fine. However, err on the side of caution if unsure and buy more. You can always eat them with something else
- -500 grams mascarpone cheese. You can find this in most stores. The higher the fat content, the creamier the filling is going to be.
- -3 large-ish eggs
- -160 grams of sugar
- -1 or 2 vanilla bourbon sugar small packs
- -one medium can (500 ml) of liquid whipped cream (I used Hulala)
- -Coffee (3, 4 cups dark strong coffee)
- -dark chocolate shavings
The Preparation
- -Split the egg yolks from the whites. Fairly easy, just break the egg gently in half, then start moving the yolk from one half to the other over a bowl while the whites slowly separate. here’s a youtbe video for those confused
- -Mix well the yolks with the sugar (vanilla and plain) until you get a thick yellow paste. Use a mixer
- -Use the mixer (after cleaning it) on the whites for 4, 5 minutes until you get a thick white paste, that does not flow or stick to the edges of the bowl
- -Pour the liquid whipped cream in yet another bowl (should be 3 now), and mix it until it is somewhat solid (definitely not until it is fully solid). Just until it starts holding shape
- -Pour the whites over the yolks / sugar combination and mix
- -Add the mascarpone cheese and mix some more
- -Be a good sir mix a lot and add the whipped cream in the main bowl, then keep on mixin’ until you get a solid cream.
- -Prepare the strong coffee
- -Dip the ladyfingers one by one in the coffee (both sides for a few seconds, and watch your fingers…might still be hot) and place them in a layer on the bottom of the tiramisu pan
- -Spread half the cream mixture over the ladyfingers
- -Add another layer of caffeinated ladyfingers
- -Add the rest of the cream and smooth it out nicely
- -Pour the dark chocolate shavings over the top, or cocoa, or sliced almonds..whatever strikes your fancy
- -Stick it in the fridge for 4, 5 hours
- -Profit
